What We Worked On Today

Today, we began by discussing the techniques of Stanislavski's System. We wrote down our character's given circumstances, super objectives and Subtext. We also talked about the magic if and what would we do ourselves if we were in our character's position and whether their actions aligned with our morals, with my character (Krogstad) I particularly found that I didn't agree with many of his actions. However, I did sympathise with Krogstad due to the situation that he is in, although I have not been in a situation like that I can imagine it was hard for him having to raise kids of his own and defying many of the gender roles of the time; as a result I think that he had to make some very tough decisions that required him to be quite a harsh person. 

After doing this, we began blocking our duologue for the first time. We made decisions on staging, clothing and furniture that we would use in our scene. 

Moments Of Discovery/Concern 

After receiving some feedback today, we discovered that we could build more on the power dynamic between Nora and Krogstad. Using the chairs a symbol of power over the other, as Krogstad has just walked into his boss' home unannounced, the fact that he has made himself comfortable and sat down without being welcomed shows how he feels that he has power over Nora at this moment. It was also highlighted how I could build on Krogstad's very aggressive demeanour in the piece and how we could work with Proxemics to further add to this, with Krogstad coming closer towards Nora when he was being more demanding. 

We were a little concerned with the beginning, we felt that it didn't quite fit with the naturalistic style of the piece and was still a little unnatural. As a this will be something we will begin to work on in our next rehearsal.
